PROVOCATIVE COMMENTS OF NIGERIAN ONLINE USERS

There is a saying that with much power comes great responsibility. There is no doubt that the internet is a very powerful medium for people to get their view across. But it is quite disheartening and annoying what one sees when going through comments on Nigerian platforms, especially when it comes to sensitive national issues or even ordinary issues. What is more amazing is the fact that most of the views of these people are not factual, but they just blot out without properly verifying their facts and in the process fanning the embers of hatred and mutual suspicion among various groups of people.
One of the very first posts of Kontriman was on the issue of bigotry. The words people use to describe people or people from another tribe or religion is really worrisome. If you do not understand something get your facts rights and even when the facts have been established, please Kontripipu covey your positions, views and opinions in a civilized manner. And please, that a person from a particular tribe commits a particular crime does not mean all the people from his tribe, who do not know him are also criminals. For your information all human beings have the capacity for good and evil and so we should endeavour to restrain ourselves.

ON POLICE COLLEGE VISIT

It is no longer news that President Goodluck Jonathan visited the Police College some weeks ago, and saw the level of the decay in the institution. President Jonathan's Visit was prompted by a report on the Premier College by Channels television. We commend Channels Television for the foresight in bringing the state of affairs in the college to the public arena. We also Thank God that the President or His men saw the report and took action by paying a surprise visit. It is imperative at this juncture for us to ask ourselves some fundamental questions. but before we ask these questions it is imperative to state that with the poor state of the police premier college where recruits receive training it is not surprising that the quality of our policemen is below standard. And any country that is serious with its internal security, would invest in its security infrastructure, training, equipments and welfare among other things. Now the questions; Where did the huge security votes go to? Why did it take the report of channels to bring to the fore the rot in the college? Why haven't heads rolled by now in the police hierarchy? Who is or are specifically responsible for the rot in the institution? Is government really serious about security? Kontriman hopes something far reaching would be come out of this whole episode.
With the police pension scam, the police equipment trust scam some years ago and the revelation of the rot in the police college, it is not surprising that the Nigerian police force is operating below standard.

FLOATING CORPSES IN ANAMBRA

The heart of man is desperately wicked, if not how else can one explain the discovery of about 40 corpses in Anambra state in  decomposing states. What is more frightening is that no one has a clue as to where the corpses originated from. What is really happening in this country of ours,or are we gradually slipping back into pre- colonial times? Is human life no longer sacred? Well the current incident goes a long way to prove that our security agencies have a long way to go, if not how else can one explain their inability to get to the root of the matter. The first challenge is to determine where the bodies were dumped and how they flowed to where they were discovered. At least that is a first step. Don't we have the capacity for DNA analysis  and soil testing to determine were they were thrown? Who are we kidding this is Nigeria. . Kontriman hopes that this matter would not remain unsolved and that major investigations would commence to unravel and punish those behind the wicked and dastardly act.

SUPER EAGLES MAKE IT TO QUARTER FINALS

Thank God, the Super Eagles, Nigeria's national senior football team qualified for the Quarter finals. However, as it has become characteristic of the Eagles we had to wait for the final game before we could qualify. They advance to the quarter final stage of the competition, courtesy two goals scored from the penalty spot by Victor Moses of Chelsea United. From the quality of play of the current crop of Super Eagles players, it is evident that there is still a long way to go for us to get back the former glory of the Super Eagle in 1994. Like every other sphere of life in Nigeria, our football can only move forward, when we have the right people in the right places and we begin to cherish and uphold the right values, like integrity, hard work  commitment among others. From the way our boys play, it is as if there is nothing at stake. And really what is at stake? Is it winning the cup for a nation where corruption reigns supreme and the masses do not matter, as the ruling class care only about themselves? But maybe they can win for themselves, their pride, their dignity and their own personal bragging rights and their marketability, well time would tell as they play their next match on Sunday.  Kontriman wishes them well and hopes that they would win the cup.

WESTERN INFLUENCE

In the midst of so much corruption, poverty, hopelessness, misery, suffering among other vices, we as Nigerians still focus on things that have no bearing in our lives. Why is that Nigerians carry on as if all is well with our country? Or maybe they don't just care. As a people we get easily influenced by other cultures, it is visible by the way we dress, our entertainment, lifestyle etc. At the moment, the rave is reality television. We have gradually caught the reality television bug; forgetting that such things cannot work in our society. Agreed we have to work a little and play a little, but if we are going to play, we must at least work first. And when we play, we should try to play and relax the Nigerian/African way. We must start taking a more active interest in issues that bother on our growth, development and progress as a nation. For instance, get involved in you neighborhood and resident association and get involved in your local government affairs. Democracy is not an end, but a means to an end. Cultural influence is not a bad thing, but it shouldn't steal your No 1. identity which is Nigerian/African.

PENSION THIEF RE-ARRESTED

Barely 72 hours after he walked out of court a free man, courtesy the Judgement of Justice Talba of an FCT HIGH COURT, Mr. John  Yakubu Yusuf, was re-arrested by the EFCC. He is to be re-arraingened to face fresh charges. Mr. John Yakubu Yusuf was arraigned for stealing N27 Billion, but in what has been tagged by many groups and Nigerians as a travesty of Justice, Mr John was sentenced to two years imprisonment, with an option of fine (N250,000.00 for each of the three counts, amounting to N750,000.00). He gladly took the option of fine. It is evident that the war against corruption in Nigeria is a big joke. This is the same country, where people are languishing in jail awaiting trial for lesser crimes, and many of whom have stayed beyond the terms of the alleged crimes if they had been convicted.

LAMIDO: GOVERNMENT MAGIC!

This people in Government must really think Nigerians are really stupid and as such treat us with disdain and contempt. If not how can one explain the drama currently unfolding on the issue of his son money laundering case.
The other day it was that the Judges were in a conference and yesterday the story was that the Judge that the matter was assigned to was not on seat.

CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA

It is a known fact that today in Nigeria, corruption is one of the biggest problems we face in Nigeria. It is no secrete that our leaders are corrupt. But the story does not end there; let us truly reflect and ask our selves this fundamental question? Is it only our leaders that are corrupt, what of we the people; are we any better?
